INDIAN ARMY TEAM WINS GOLD MEDAL AT AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION HELD AT UNITED KINGDOM
'Cambrian Patrol Competition', an international event, known as the "Olympics of Patrolling", is conducted at Wales, in United Kingdom, every year. 4th Battalion of 9th Gorkha Rifles (CHINDITS) of Sudarshan Chakra Corps participated in Cambrian Patrol competition, in the United Kingdom, in October 2011. The team earned laurels to the Nation and the Indian Army by winning a 'Gold Medal at the said competition. A total of 100 teams participated in Cambrian Patrol Competition including 14 teams from various foreign countries.
Lieutenant General AK Singh, Army Commander, Southern Command felicitated the team today during his visit to the Corps Headquarters in the desert sector.
The Army Commander applauded the dedicated efforts of the team members for their pursuit in excellence. He mentioned that this event is a widely renowned military competition conducted by the British Army and is held under adverse battle conditions in arduous terrain of both jungles and mountains. The aim of the Cambrian Patrol is to provide a challenging patrol exercise in order to develop operational capability as a mission oriented tactical team.
The performance of the team hinges around leadership, team work, physical fitness, mental robustness and above all tactical skills involving reconnaissance techniques, navigation, first aid and casualty evacuation. The British Army has conducted Cambrian Patrol Competition for the last 40 years where participants include teams from foreign armies. This team has won the first ever 'Gold Medal' by an Indian contingent. The Army Commander, in appreciation of the victory, presented the team with the trophy on the occasion.
