“Umerkot, also known as Omarkot, is a town in theUmerkot DistrictinSindh,Pakistan. The city is well connected with the other large cities likeKarachi, theprovincial capital andHyderabad.Once, it was the capital of GreaterSindhProvince (including some parts of presentRajasthanstate of India). It also became prominent during the time of theMughals and during theBritish Raj. The greatMughal king Akbar was born in Umerkot whenhis fatherHumayunfled from military defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri. RanaPrasad, a Hindu Sodha Rajput ruler of Amarkot, gave refuge to Humayun. Akbarlater became the King of India and was a popular figure with bothHindusandMuslims. Umerkot has many sites of historical significance such asMughal Emperor Akbar's birthplace at Umerkot Forton October 15, 1542”.

Upon her refusal she was being imprisoned in the historic Umerkot Fortfor many years until her ultimate release. Because of her courage, Marvi is an idealfor the local people”.
