“Umerkot, also known as Omarkot, is a town in theUmerkot DistrictinSindh,Pakistan. It also became prominent during the time of theMughals and during theBritish Raj. The greatMughal king Akbar was born in Umerkot whenhis fatherHumayunfled from military defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri. RanaPrasad, a Hindu Sodha Rajput ruler of Amarkot, gave refuge to Humayun. Akbarlater became the King of India and was a popular figure with bothHindusandMuslims.
